FOAMS
With this technology, Novamont has developed a new family of packaging products that have a low environmental impact because they are made with natural and completely biodegradable and water-soluble materials (EN 14987 Plastics – Evaluation of disposability in waste water treatment plants – Test scheme for final acceptance and specifications).
- Wave by Mater-Bi® .
The new Mater-Bi® Wave foam sheet is a real alternative to the materials which are commonly used in protection packaging (polystyrene, polyurethane and polyethylene). Made of starch, it is expanded using water, extruded into sheets and then assembled into blocks that can be cut into any shape. Wave has a robust and resilient closed-cell structure; sheets and blocks are available in different sizes, with densities from 30 to 400 kg/m3.

Loose Fillers
From today, both products and the environment have a "cushioned" journey.
Mater-Bi®, the new packaging filler that is made from maize and potato starch, respects nature. It can replace traditional polystyrene foam and common disposable fillers made from polyurethane, other plastics and paper. Due to its excellent resistance and "cushion" properties, it is particularly recommended for packaging pharmaceutical products, laboratory equipment, consumer goods and mail order goods.
The last to arrive, but one of the first for performance.
Mater-Bi® loose fillers are predominantly made of starch and are expanded using water. They respect the environment, are completely biodegradable and water-soluble, are resilient and anti-static, and have excellent shock-absorbing, elastic properties. They protect packaged products very well by adapting perfectly to the different shapes.
Tangible solubility
Take a Mater-Bi® loose filler, place it in a glass of water and in a few minutes, you will be able to witness its extraordinary breaking-up characteristics. Thanks to the fact that it is completely compostable, it can be disposed of in the separate collection of organic waste where it will become compost. It can be disposed of together with card and paper; tests carried out confirm that wave by Mater-Bi® is perfectly compatible with all phases of recycling cellulose fibre. It can also be disposed of in standard water purifying plants and sewer systems.
